In the summer of 1976 there weren't any courses I could take so I mostly just worked on projects (towards my Master's thesis) and traveled a little. Above is a picture of my brother Michael and his girl friend, Holly. They are the center two of the group. San Antonio has much more character than most of the Mid-West and has some very scenic canals (which are becoming the rage with developments in unlikely places like Irving, TX putting in canals, but they are really just for show unlike the canals in Venice and Thailand which are real means of transit). As I look more closely at the canals, though, they do look remarkably well kept with very tourist sorts of boats on them. Perhaps they were added to an older section of town to give it cache (which was later emulated in a new development in Irving, TX. San Antonio also hosted the 1968 Hemisfair and the Tower of Americas was built for that. Basically it is a simple tower with a restaurant and observation deck at the top. The pictures below are of the area around San Antonio from that tower. San Antonio, TX =0=
