Trip to Korea

There is a voice description of each slide that you can listen to while looking at the slides. It is from the cassette tapes we made almost thirty years ago. I was pretty long winded (no rehearsals or editting and tapes were cheap) and the section for this page is about five minutes and will take about 1.5 minutes to download with a dial up connection. So might you not want to get it unless you have a broadband connection to the internet.

Click on any of the little pictures to see it at normal size. Click on the '=0=' after the picture to see it in giant size (about 2 minutes to download on dialup connection and larger than screen size). This could be useful if you wanted to really look at one part of the picture or to make a print.
The trip started in Boston, MA. From there we were headed to Fort Gordon, Georgia where I would get the basic training for a communications officer (Signals Corps). On the drive down to Georgia, we stopped in Washington, DC to visit friends, Dennis and Judy. A consistent theme for these slides is zoos around the world, and this first picture is one of the pandas from the National Zoo in Washington, DC (summer 1977). National Zoo. =0=
My training in Georgia was only for three and months months, so we rented a trailer. We didn't need much space as we hadn't brought much with us (only what would fit in our car) and most apartments required a one year lease. However, we could rent the trailer as long as we needed, so that is what we did. The trailer was air conditioned, which was important as it was hot and humid in Georgia in the summer. My little 1974 Mustang is next to the trailer. It was well packed and about a decade later I discovered some Coke bottles that had been stored in a little cranny behing the right rear wheel and never unpacked. Yikes. Fort Gordon, Georgia. =0=
This is the living room of the trailer. This picture is out of focus (so don't worry about your eye sight or your monitor going kabluewey), but it is the only one I have and so is included anyway. We didn't have much storage space and so used any space that was out of the way. Living Room. =0=
This is the kitchen area, the one air conditioner was in the kitchen and living room area. During the days it could only really cool that one area so that is where we stayed. In the evening when it was cooler out, we would open the doors to the bedroom and bathroom in the back and it would cool off that area as well. Kitchen area. =0=
From there we went back to D.C. (where we dropped off my car with Dennis and Judy) and visited Barbara's family in Springfield, MO (but took no slides). From there we visiting my family in Dallas. This is my brother, Mike, and his girlfriend, Holly. Holly and Mike. =0=
This is Barbara and I in late 1977. Take notice of my clean shaven as you aren't likely to see many of those. My kids have never seen my chin and Barbara has never seen my upper lip (she knows that it is horribly disfigured and so has never been seen). ;-) Any prior pictures of upper lip, have, of course, been doctored. Barb and Brian. =0=
This is a sunset in Dallas from my mom's backyard on Alden St in Oak Cliff (a part of Dallas) Dallas sunset. =0=
Next stop was to visit Keith, in Los Angeles. This is a view of the smog. This was in 1977 and our eyes burned the whole time we visited. I imagine that with all the pollution controls they have added, the air is much better as I never remember my eyes always burning in later visits. LA smog, 1977. =0=
This picture was taken in their Botanical Garden. The smog was not so apparent, but our eyes still burned. LA Botanical Garden. =0=
Here is a pretty bridge over a little stream. LA Botanical Garden. =0=
The stream also had a little water fall which added burbling brook sounds. Very nice. LA Botanical Garden. =0=
Here are Keith and Brenda. Keith was also in the Jewish Chapel squad with me at West Point and was semi-adopted by the Kossoff's. Keith and Brenda. =0=
While we were visiting Brenda and Keith, some of Brenda's family was visiting as well and this is all of them. Brenda's family. =0=
The vegetation also got pretty dense. It was not very dry when we visited so everything was pretty green. LA Botanical Garden. =0=
